Advert & Card Design
Posted on 26th May 2008
Designing printed materials such as advertising flyers and cards is a challenging task as the process of ensuring the printed results to be as close to what's shown on the PC screen as possible is not an easy one. The likelihood of the colour & print layout settings on someone's PC & printer to be exactly the same as mine is pretty remote, not to mention about the type of paper used. So, whenever I am involved in this type of design project I tend to offer a whole service of designing, printing and any necessary cutting to ensure the results are as close to the original design as possible.
Having said that I am hoping to learn some basics of designing printed materials so that I can cater for wider design needs in the future. For now, please enjoy this small selection of adverts & cards I have designed recently.

The World by Design - CMI Event
Client : Morning Star Christian Fellowship
Project Type : Advertising Flyer Design & Production
Date : Apr 2008
Morning Star Christian Fellowship is hosting a talk by Dr Carl Wieland (Creation Ministries International, Australia), entitled 'The World by Design' on 31st May 2008. As the hosting church, our pastor Gary gave me the task of designing & producing advertising materials; A4 colour flyer (10 copies) and A5 black & white flyer (340 copies).
The key feature of this design is the map of the world with a hand holding a pencil - as there was no design brief given from CMI, I hope this compliments the theme of the talk... |

Gary's Birthday Card
Client : N/A
Project Type : Birthday Card Design & Production
Date : Sometime in 2008
It is such an encouragement to know that our pastor Gary (Morning Star Christian Fellowship) stands in front of the congregation Sunday after Sunday, and is excited about what he is about to preach. So it was only fitting to put his catchphrase along with the vector drawing of his portrait on his birthday card.

Christmas Card
Client : N/A
Project Type : Christmas Card Design & Production
Date : Dec 2007
As this was our 2nd family Christmas card I designed, I had to make sure it topped the last one from 2003. I wanted to avoid the 'Cheesy' family portrait style, so using any photographs wasn't an option - producing the vector drawings of our portrait turned out to be a really good practice in working with Bézier paths (Computer based drawing system developed by Pierre Bézier in 1960s).

Guitar Advert
Client : N/A
Project Type : Advertising Flyer Design
Date : Feb 2007
This advert was designed when I was trying to sell my Yamaha AES620 guitar I upgraded with different pickups and hardwares. I don't know if it's the product or the advert, but I still haven't sold this guitar yet... If you're interested in a Les Paul type electric guitar with passive EMG pickups please let me know! |
